General Requirements
State Requirements
Resident Insurance Producers must satisfy the following continuing education requirements in order to renew their license: 24 hours every 2 years (including Ethics – 3 hours)

Multiple Lines Licensed Agents
Multiple Lines License Agents may take Major Lines courses in any license type held.
CE Exemptions
Producers who have held a life agent license for at least one year or who obtained a life settlement broker license prior to July 2, 2010 are exempt from the 15-hour life settlement broker training course requirement. This does not include an exemption from the life agent CE requirement of 24 CE hours, including 3 hours of ethics; The producer holds only a cargo shippers license;The producer is 70 years or older and has held a California insurance license in good standing for 30 years or more. These producers are not exempt from the special training listed above; The producer holds a life license and claims a funeral exemption (sells less than $15,000 of insurance).
Course Requirements
Subject Area Requirements
Students must take approved courses in the line of authority in which they are licensed in.
Repeated Course Rules
Courses cannot be repeated within 2 years from the original course completion date.
Carryover Credits
Credit hours that are earned in excess will be carried over to the next license term. LTC or Ethics credits will be carried over as general credits. In a two-year license term, a course may not be taken for credit more than once.
Special Training Requirements
Initial Training: A one-time 8-hour Insurance Approved training course is required for agents to be eligible to sell Annuities.
Ongoing Training: 4-hour continuing every two years.
Initial Training: 8 hours must be taken in general Long-Term Care.
Ongoing Training: 8 Hours every year for producers licensed 4 years or less for the four year period then 8 hours every two years thereafter.
Initial Training: A one-time 3-hour FEMA/National Flood Insurance Program approved training course is required for agents selling Flood Insurance.
All Property and Casualty agents and Personal Lines agents who sell homeowners’ insurance must complete a one-time 3-hour training course in homeowners’ insurance valuation.
Individuals not licensed as a resident or non-resident California life agent or who have not held California life agent license for more than a year are required to complete 15 CE hours related to life settlements and life settlements transactions, prior to operating as a life settlements broker.
Final Exam Requirements
Exam Rules
Online Final Exams are open book (course materials are available while the Final Exam is in progress). The final exam must be passed with a score of 70% or higher to receive CE credit. If the exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.
Proctor Requirements
No requirement.
American Insurance College Course Access
Students at the American Insurance College have unlimited access to all CE and Pre-Licensing courses.
Course Completion
AIC Completion Reporting
The American Insurance College reports all Course completions immediately. Our technology allows us to start reporting your results most normally within five minutes of your course completion.
Certificates of Completion
Certificates of Completion are issued immediately upon the completion of your course.
Reporting Fees
There is a state charge of $0.65 per credit hour in order to report completions.
