Claims Settlement Legal Brief

The purpose of this course is to better equip you in your professional activities as an Insurance Agent or Insurance Adjuster.

For Maryland multiline Life/Health and Property/Casualty, licensees must complete a minimum of six (6) hours in each line. The remaining hours may be satisfied by either line.

Welcome to the Claims Settlement Legal Brief continuing education course. In this course the student will study the final stage of the claims process: Claims Settlement. We will review an insurers duty to initiate a settlement; outline of a settlement offers; setting settlement ranges; compromise and negotiation tactics; settlement techniques to be avoided; and settlement types. We conclude the course with an overview of the NAIC Model Unfair Claims Settlement Practices Act. The general focus of this course is on the Settlement aspect of claims handling. Interesting case law is presented to support the concepts discussed in the course.

This course makes a few assumptions about you the student:

  • You are a currently licensed Insurance Agent or Adjuster.
  • You are interested in additional information, resources, and knowledge regarding claims settlements.
