Fair Credit Reporting Act

The purpose of this course is to better equip you in your professional activities as an Insurance Agent or Insurance Adjuster.

The purpose of this course is to provide you with a better understanding and knowledge of procedures and rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. In the first Module we are going to discuss a brief History and Overview of the FCRA. In the second module we are going to review Rights and Procedures during Identity Theft. In Module Three, we review Reporting Agency Compliance and Procedures under the FCRA. The course concludes with Module Four a review of the “working-definitions” of credit terms.

This course makes a few assumptions about you the student:

  • You are currently licensed Licensed Insurance professional.
  • You are interested in additional information and resource knowledge regarding the inner workings of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

In insurance, as in all sales fields, the more you’re familiar with a product, the more knowledgeable you can acquire in assisting clients and ensuring your understanding of products so that your clients may make a clear and concise decision.

If you are planning on selling insurance products such as Life, Home or Auto insurance, you should dedicate enough of your time to learning how consumer credit and the Fair Credit Reporting Act works using resources like this course. Adverse credit history can affect the insurance rate a client receives and many insurers may even refuse to insure a client based on credit. With fraud levels at record highs, it is important that you and your client understand the right afforded to them in knowing what is contained within their credit reports.

What should you know about consumer credit so that you can be a more effective insurance agent? We have a little more general information to discuss and then we will take a look at the Fair Credit Reporting Act in general. Keep in mind that there is a more exhaustive review of some state specific guidelines in the Appendices at the end of the course.

This course consists of four Modules; each Module concludes with a Key Takeaway section; these are important and are the basis of the Module Quizzes and Final Exam.

  • Module One: Overview and History of FCRA
  • Module Two: Identity Theft: Rights and Procedures
  • Module Three: FCRA Reporting Agency Compliance and Procedures
